For 75 years Thornton Wilder’s masterpiece has played a profound role in American culture. Theater Latté Da will honor the play’s 75th anniversary with a unique production. A multi-cultural cast of actor musicians become the citizens of Grover’s Corners as they fall in love, marry, confront mortality and all the while make music. Wilder’s profound look at ordinary people living ordinary lives has never been more extraordinary. Theater Latte Da’s production will include musical interludes by American masters of popular song such as Irving Berlin, Scott Joplin, Stephen Foster and Charles Ives.

Within the halls of the Japan Society’s landmarked building in New York comes a new experience inspired by Wilder’s Pulitzer prize-winning play Our Town.

Of the infinite stars in the galaxy, a young boy fixates on one that is located ten-thousand light years away and has long perished by the time of the boy’s discovery. Imagine that at that same moment, the boy is actually an old man being watched by someone on a faraway star! Such are the mind-bending ideas whirling through Our Planet, a tale by the young Japanese playwright Yukio Shiba that juxtaposes the minutia of an average Japanese family’s life with the galactic events of the Earth’s birth and death. Inspired by Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, Shiba’s Our Planet won the most prestigious Kishida Kunio Drama Award in 2010. Performed in English.

The Japan Society’s Program Officer, Lara Mones, has stated that the creative team has “[…] decided to take the play out of the confines of our theater and have the audience actually travel with the actors around the various rooms of our landmarked building. We are really thrilled about the world premiere of this production.”

Hello, Dolly!, the musical based on Thornton Wilder’s 1955 farce, The Matchmaker, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2014. In honor of the occasion, an anniversary production will travel across the nation to more than 70 cities.

In the Tony Award winning musical farce Hello, Dolly! the cantankerous half-a-millionaire Horace Vandergelder hires matchmaker Dolly Levi to find a wife for him. Dolly soon hatches a plan to woo and win Vandergelder’s hand herself, while simultaneously arranging romantic prospects for his niece, his clerks and two of Manhattan’s most eligible shop girls. Jerry Herman’s memorable score and charming lyrics place the irresistibly mischievous Dolly center stage, making the role one of the most celebrated and high-spirited in musical theatre.

Sally Struthers is a two-time Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award winner for her performances in the ground-breaking TV series All in the Family. She starred in the Fox television series 9 to 5 and her own CBS series Gloria. Her last two series were the CBS comedy Still Standing and the CW network’s highly acclaimed Gilmore Girls. Sally co-starred in two legendary motion pictures in the 70’s: Five Easy Pieces with Jack Nicholson and The Getaway with Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw. Sally’s first two Broadway forays were in Wally’s Café with Rita Moreno and Jimmy Coco and Neil Simon’s female version of The Odd Couple with Brenda Vaccaro. For three years she starred as Miss Mamie Lynch on Broadway and on tour in the Tommy Tune production of Grease. In the 20th Anniversary National Tour of Annie, Sally played the coveted role of Miss Hannigan. Sally was named Best Actress by the Los Angeles Artistic Director Theatre Awards for her role as Louise Seger in the musical, Always, Patsy Cline, a true story based on the relationship between Seger and Cline.
